The Rider on a White Horse

STUDY: # 1095 CHURCH IN THE HOUSES DATE: MAY 24, 2020

TOPIC: "The Rider on a White Horse" Revelation 19:11-16 On Wednesday I was speaking to you about Ephesians 5: 26,27. The Lord Jesus’ love for the church is shown in His work of sanctification, “... that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the Word ...” Sanctify means “set apart.” The church is being sanctified day by day! Our sanctification process is moral and spiritual; both things go hand in hand. “… by the washing of water with the Word ...” This means that your life is purified by hearing the Words of Christ! (John 15:3 “Already you are clean because of the Word that I have spoken to you.”) The Lord linked sanctification with the Word!

I. In Revelation 19:11-16 we read about Christ’s glorious coming to earth!

A. John describes the Lord coming to crush His enemies and establish His kingdom.

1. It is the glorious coming of Christ to earth, to crush His enemies, and establish His kingdom.

2. He comes riding on a white horse! It is obviously a war horse, because it comes to defeat its enemies.

3. (Vs.11) Here the name of the Rider, who we know to be our Lord, is FAITHFUL AND TRUE. Because He is FAITHFUL to His promises and TRUE as to His character (His qualities, His personality).

4. "... and in righteousness he judges and makes war ..." He can only rule over a kingdom where the people are willing to live under A KINGDOM OF JUSTICE!

5. Therefore, first, HE MUST REMOVE EVERYTHING THAT BRINGS OFFENSES!

6. (Vs.12) "His eyes are like a flame of fire ..." This suggests the penetrating power of His judgment! The Lord Jesus can detect ALL REBELLION AND DISBELIEF!

7. "... and on his head are many diadems ..." Others can win different crowns, but only the Lord Jesus wears the royal diadem!

8. "... and he has a name written that no one knows but himself." There are mysteries related to the Person of Christ that no created being will ever be able to probe, to find out in depth.

9. (Vs.13) "He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood ..." This is not the blood that He poured on the cross, but the "blood of His enemies" whom He tramples on in the winepress of the wrath of God. (A WINEPRESS is the place where the grapes are stepped on to obtain the must, the wine.)

10. Here the Lord Jesus Christ is called by the name OF THE WORD OF GOD!

11. A verb is the word, it is a means of expression of thought (through the word an action is expressed, an activity) JESUS IS THE VERB, THE ACTION. HE DID EVERYTHING!

12. Jesus is GOD'S ACTION. Jesus would do whatever the Father needed to be done on earth.

13. In Christ, God has fully expressed Himself to man. HE IS THE WORD OF GOD!

14. (Vs.14) "And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses." Christ is accompanied by the heavenly armies. These armies are surely made up of saints, believers!

15. But it is worth noting that they are not required to fight. The Lord Jesus defeats His enemies without any help!

16. Matthew 24:31 "And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other."

17. (Vs.15) "From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations ..." He comes to rule them with a rod of iron and to tread the winepress of the fury and wrath of the Almighty God!

18. I DO NOT WANT TO BE IN THAT WINEPRESS!

19. I WANT TO COME WITH HIM ON THE WHITE HORSE!

20. (Vs.16) "On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS."

21. NOBODY OVERCOMES HIM. NOBODY MASTERS HIM. NOBODY IS GREATER THAN HIM. NOBODY HAS OFFERED MY LIFE WHAT HE HAS: FORGIVENESS, SALVATION, BEING WITH HIM IN ETERNITY, AND BEING WITH HIM THAT GREAT DAY!

22. Our Lord is the Supreme Ruler! All others are to submit to HIS GOVERNMENT! Amen.
