Let Us Be Vigilant of Ourselves

TOPIC: "Let Us Be Vigilant of Ourselves" 2 John 1:6-11 (Revelation 16:15) “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he who "watches" and keeps his clothes with him, so that he may not go naked and be shamefully exposed." Blessed are those who wait for His return and who have kept themselves pure in the days lived here on Earth. Take care, WATCH YOURSELF, NOT THE OTHERS! Only you know your actions, the reason for them. Good and easy it is to look at others and speak of others, when you really don’t know almost anything about them. You do know yourself and why you do what you do!

I. "And this is love: that WE WALK in obedience to his commandments." 2 John 1:6

A. That wherever you go MAY BE OUT OF LOVE! You walk ACCORDING TO HIS COMMANDMENTS!

1. This is very difficult nowadays; the reason is the ambitions.

2. The problem of ambition is in the mind! For this reason, you make it your goal to accomplish this when you walk. You live mainly looking to reach your goal!

3. And it's not for love! For such reason, what you do or give has no fruit in your account, because personal ambition has no fruit!

4. The largest percentage of human beings walk only to demand and achieve for themselves. When failing to achieve this, hatred develops in them instead of love, which is perfect. And you? Does this happen to you?

5. From the beginning of the creation of man THE REASON TO LIVE HAS BEEN ABOUT LOVE.

6. Cain killed his brother due to hatred, envy, because he desired what his brother Abel had.

7. "...as you have heard from the beginning." Love is not new; it has existed since the beginning. We know it, God is love!

8. Love is essentially giving yourself selflessly (in spontaneous sacrifice) for the benefit of others.

B. (Vs. 8) "Watch out for yourselves ..."

1. John warns his readers: That we look out for ourselves so that we do not lose the things that we have done, BUT THAT WE RECEIVE THE COMPLETE REWARD.

2. Let us be vigilant = careful, attentive, prudent, ready, jealous, being alert with a watchful eye.

3. Brothers, you have to remain firm, stable, with fruits, not moved by anyone nor hesitate getting to the point, in the truth regarding the Lord Jesus Christ. In such a way that your labors among you are not in vain and that you receive the full reward!

4. WATCH OUT FOR YOURSELF! It is not about procuring something for yourself, but about watching after yourself in order not to act foolishly (recklessly and immaturely, too quickly.)

5. To receive the Lord's reward for a job well done!

6. Look out to know yourself, not to pretend! You must be honest with yourself, because you may like to be honest with everyone else and not watch yourself.

7. If one is not vigilant one remains IN THE SHAME OF NUDITY! And it is that no one can put your clothes on in what your personal life is, ONLY YOU CAN DRESS YOURSELF!

C. (Vs. 9) "Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God..."

1. IF YOU DO NOT LOVE, that is the commandment, that is the doctrine that John refers to.

2. To move away IS TO TRANSGRESS! Brother, life with the Lord is not a game!

3. This warned here is for the false teachers. With all, they were warned!

4. To transgress is to act against the law, the norms, the pact. It is going beyond the defined limits.

5. "...whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son!"

6. Those who follow the rules, who persevere in the doctrine, show in whom they have believed.

7. Careful, let us not see the Father and the Son where they are not, surely the Holy Spirit does not dwell there.

D. (Vs. 10, 11) Let us not say to them welcome! I can't be a friend to God's enemies!

1. To show them hospitality is to take sides with those who are against our Savior.

2. Brother, I cannot cry, laugh, or pray with those who are against the Lord, our Savior.

3. When we know that someone is a false teacher, it would be disloyalty to Christ to befriend such person.

4. They deny the commandments of Christ!

5. We have to learn to unite MEEKNESS with INTRANSIGENCE with them when they break with the principles of faith and the Christian life (we do not accept behaviors, opinions or ideas different from those that stray from the truth). Amen.
