Well of the One Who Lives and Sees Me

"Well of the One Who Lives and Sees Me" (Genesis 16:7-16) We are talking about Hagar on her way from the Shur desert to Egypt, found by the angel of Jehovah on her way to her native country. This was the Lord Jesus in one of His appearances before His incarnation (through the Holy Spirit, Jesus incarnates to reconcile humanity lost to sin, Jesus came in flesh to earth). We see in verse 13: She understood, she recognized that she was in God's presence; she referred to Him as, "God who sees." Both the angel of Jehovah and Christ were sent by the Father. Jehovah's angel can be neither the Father nor the Holy Spirit. Jehovah's angel is the second person.

I. Hagar was now out of the way of duty.

A. It is easier to flee than to be at the forefront of duty.

1. She had gone astray even further.

2. God doesn't stop her until she was in the wilderness.

3. It is better for God to speak to us, even if we have to go to the desert.

4. (V.8) God called her: Hagar servant of Sarai.

5. It was the form of humiliation.

6. There was a lot of haughtiness in Hagar, he was already above Sarai who was the one of the promise.

7. Haughtiness, pride go together, which I don't know, which comes first.

8. Sarai's servant was to be in Sarai's tent; and not wandering in the desert and doing the haphag (who has little willingness to do something that requires effort or constitutes an obligation especially to work) next to a front. Christophany = appearance of Jesus preincarnated or after His crucifixion.

9. Annoying, it was tantrum, complaint, as if to die because everyone offended her.

10. The question the angel asked her was very appropriate with much reasoning: Where do you come from?

11. He says: Hagar servant of Sarai.

12. She has duties and responsibilities; you are running away from duties because you are offended.

13. And where are you going?

14. Fleeing to sin, to Egypt and great dangers in the wilderness.

15. When the human being departs from God and his duties, they must be somewhat right and think and remember, not only of how they have fallen, but of where they are falling, but it is better to be lazy.

16. She was honest in her answer: I am running away from my mistress Sarai.

17. Jehovah's angel tells her, giving her appropriate and very compassionate advice: "Turn to your lady and become submissive under her hand. (V. 9)

18. She wanted the place of the lady and looked with contempt (lack of appreciation) (v.9) at her lady, she was the servant.

19. Place is place, and when you want it, you will look with contempt at who has what you want.

20. Having been given by the angel of Jehovah good advice to turn to her mistress, she immediately promised to do so.

21. The angel added a prediction (Announce a future fact) concerning her posterity (which is coming).

22. The angel assures her thats he will have a happy future.

23. He is a child of promise.

24. The angel names the child (V.11), which was an honor for both her and the child.

25. You will call his name Ishmael this is: God will hear; the reason is, because Jehovah has heard your affliction.

26. You know brother, tears speak as well as prayers.

27. He promises her a numerous offspring.

28. The Arabs are considered descendants of Ishmael.

29. And they are a very numerous people.

30. He tells her about the character of the child she is going to give birth to.

31. What a great voice that spoke to her!

32. He will be a fierce man (donkey, savage of man, fierce, daring, rebellious, indolent (who is not affected and moved) and treacherous of Hebrew.

33. His hand will be against all, this is his sin.

34. And everyone's hand will be against him.

35. This is his punishment.

36. We know that those with turbulent spirits often have stormy lives.

37. But all in all, he will live safely.

38. Look at the recklessness (careless misconduct, dereliction of duty, diligence, risk), they are exposed to constant dangers, they are strangely preserved, even so, by divine Providence, God being for them much better than they deserve.

39. Hagar's response of worship of God's omniscience and providence (V.13), with application of these divine attributes: You are God who sees, this would be, for her, the name of God forever.

40. The one who sees everything, that is; He sees me.

41. For a repentant like Hagar, it is a very own expression: "You see the sincerity and seriousness of my conversion and my repentance."

42. The humble admiration of God's favor for her: Have I not also seen here the one who sees me?

43. She probably didn't know who was talking to her until He left and then she noticed Him with a reflection similar to those of the disciples of Emmaus (Luke 24:31-32).

44. The place where the God of glory manifested His special care for a poor woman in distress: The Well of the Living One who sees me.

45. After Hagar did as the Angel, Jesus commanded her, turning to her mistress, in meekness, knew God revealed by Christ. Amen.
