"The Way of Duty Is a Sure Way" Genesis 35:1-5 In this chapter we see how Jacob, now called Israel, had a fellowship with God and led the people to sanctification. He was full in God. He had the birthright and blessing of God; for it was time to "sustain" what came from God. You can't have what is from God if there isn't that sanctification to get to heaven.

I. (Genesis 28:10-22) God does not forget the promises made to him.

A. God reminds Jacob of the promise he made to him at Bethel and sends him there to fulfill it (30 years).

1. Jacob had said when he was in trouble, "If I come back in peace... this stone that I have set as a sign will be God's house. (Genesis 28:21-22).

2. Maybe seven or eight years had passed since he had come to Canaan. (Genesis 33:1920) He had bought a piece of land there and built an altar in remembrance of God's last apparition, when He named him Israel. (Genesis 33:19-20).

3. Despite such a marked favor, it seems that Jacob has been forgotten Bethel.

4. Beware of careless duties: 2 Peter 1:5-7 "add to your faith virtue (to be able to act, to act correctly, strength, courage to be able to act, integrity of mind); to virtue, knowledge (knowing-information of value, understanding reality through the reason-process of constant learning); knowledge - integrity, honesty, respect for others), self-control (ability that allows us to control ourselves, our emotions and not that they control us); to self-control, patience (ability to suffer and tolerate misfortunes, adversities, to endure); to patience, piety (obedience to God's commandments and the fulfillment of the Christian life); to piety, fraternal affection (affection to the proper of humans); and to fraternal affection, love.

5. Our desire should be to live in God's house at Bethel.

6. It should be our home, not our inn (traveling hostel).

7. Make an altar to the God who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau (28).

8. Jacob sends his family to prepare (acts, event, ceremony); not only for the trip and the transfer, but for the religious services that were to be held there.

9. The commands he gives to his family: They must "remove the foreign gods."

10. Rachel had stolen the gods of Laban.

11. The children and women had been added to him and everything in the house was stolen.

12. There were many of Shechem (the city) in their midst.

13. They had been instructed in the right knowledge of God, but they had alien gods.

14. Beware, you can have an altar raised to God in which many things are missed and there are more strange gods than one might suspect!

15. They should be clean and change their dresses.

16. Simon and Levi had their hands full of blood; it was up to them, in a special way, to clean themselves and take off such stained dresses.

17. Reuben sinned, Judah sinned with the Canaanite, and Joseph was sold out of jealousy.

18. They were aggressive men; they didn't like to be like Jacob.

19. This ceremony signified purification and change of heart.

20. His relatives gave him everything they had of idolatry and superstitious things.

21. Jacob took it upon himself to bury all this, so that they would not find it later and would not return to the previous practices.

22. They move from Shechem to Bethel without anyone bothering them.

23. The fear of God was upon the cities.

24. "The way of duty is a sure way."

25. And the mercies moved for Jacob.
