"My Special Treasure" - Exodus 19:3-6 That the maker and the one who takes the initiative of the covenant is God Himself. Nothing comes from man to bless another man. In all our relationships with God, His sovereign grace takes the lead with the blessings of His goodness and all our well-being is due, not because we have known God, but because we have been known by Him. (Galatians 4:9) The matter of the covenant is our benevolence (doing good, good) and generosity and grants the greatest privileges and advantages imaginable.

I. He reminds them of what He has done for them.

A. I took you on eagle wings.

1. A beautiful expression of the admirable tenderness that God had shown them.

2. (Deuteronomy 32:11-12) God not only came flying to set them free, but He hastened to "get them out of there by flying."

3. He did it with the strength as much as with the speed of an eagle.

4. (Deuteronomy 32:11-12) Like the eagle that excites its clutch, flutters over its chickens, spreads its wings, takes them, carries them on its feathers, Jehovah only guided them and with them there was no strange god.

5. Egypt, that iron furnace, was like the nest in which these chicks were incubated, because there they were formed first as the embryo of a nation, when by their great numerical growth, they developed to a certain maturity, they were taken from the nest.

6. Other birds carry their chicks with their claws, but the eagle (they say) carries them on its wings, so that even when the archers hunt them on the fly, they cannot do any harm to the chicks without first having crossed the mother's body.

7. "And I have brought you to me."

8. Not only had they been brought out to a state of freedom and honor, but to covenant and communion with God.

9. (1 Peter 3:18) ... The just for the unjust, to lead us to God.

10. As is ours for Jesus who died.

11. It is the reason of God always by providence and of His grace, to take us to Him, from whom we have stood by our rebellion and with Him to His home, outside of which we cannot be happy.

12. Our lives through His grace and compassion. (Matthew 23:37): as the hen gathers her chicks under her wings...

13. We can see the grace and compassion of the present dispensation and the admirable condescension and humiliation of the Redeemer.

14. (Exodus 19:5) He tells them that they should "listen to His voice and keep His covenant."

15. Since they had been saved by Him, it is natural that He insisted that they were to be ruled by Him.

16. He assures them of the honor He is to bestow upon them and of the (good) kindness He is to show them, if they observe His covenant.

17. You will be a kingdom of priests and holy people to me.

18. This is the God who commits Himself to His people.

a. (Isaiah 41:10) Do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not faint, "for I am your God who strives for you"; I will always help you, I will always sustain you with the right hand of my righteousness.

b. Silence fears and encourage faith in afflictions.

c. It is against God's intention that His people should be a fearful people.

d. It is to depend on His presence as our God: I am with you... I am your God; I give you strength (vigor) and I will always sustain you; I will help.

19. (Isaiah 46:4) And until old age myself; And even the gray hairs I will endure you; I did, I will carry, I will endure, and I will keep.

a. It was a promise made here to the aging Israel, to the elders either according to the flesh or according to the spirit.

b. We change, but God is always the same and His omnipotent arms always have the same strength.

c. Hallelujah!

20. (Psalm 91:12) In the hands they will take you so that your foot does not stumble into stone.

a. That they keep you in all your ways, that is, in the various "activities of daily life."

21. (Psalm 18:35) you give me your shield of your salvation; Your right hand sustained me, and Your kindness has enlarged me.

a. I run the risk of stepping badly on David’s feet there was no reason to step on it badly.

b. God had given him great courage, even if armies were camped, he did not back down, but thwarted them; nor did the walls stop him, for with his God he was ready to assault them. (attack them).

22. (Deuteronomy 33:27) The eternal God is your refuge and down here the eternal arms; He threw the enemy out of your front and said, Destroy.

a. Moses compares God to a king who advances in his chariot of war "to give quick and complete victory to his people."

b. It goes on the clouds with its greatness, with its great and infinite majesty.

c. There is no enemy that can prevent "the advance of the one who rides over the heavens."
