Our Obedience

Our Obedience - Hebrews 5:8 We come face to face again with the profound mystery of the Incarnation: It is a mysterious act that supposes that the Divine Word (or God the Son, as the second person of the Most Holy Trinity) took human flesh in the womb of Mary by the work and grace of the Holy Spirit as God could become Man to die for men.

I. Although He was Son.

A. He was not one Son, that is, one of many, but He was the only begotten Son of God.

1. Despite this immense fact, He "learned obedience from what He suffered."

2. His entry into this world as a Man involved Him in experiences He would never have known if He had remained in heaven.

3. Each morning His ear was to receive instructions from His Father for that day (Isaiah 50:4) (awakening morning after morning, He will awaken my ear to hear like the wise).

4. He learned obedience in the experimental sense (perceiving something by His own experience, momentarily perceiving a sensation or mood) as the Son always subject to His Father's will.

5. He was perfected in His office as our Savior.

6. If Jesus had remained in heaven, then He was not the perfect Savior (v.9).

7. Through His incarnation, death, resurrection, and ascension, He completed the work necessary to save us from our sins and now has the acquired glory of being the perfect Savior of the world.

8. Having returned to heaven, He "became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey Him."

9. He is the source of salvation for all, but only those who obey Him are saved.

10. (Genesis 6:22) The care and diligence of Noah in the making of the ark can be considered: 1. as an effect of his faith in the word of God.

11. As an "act of obedience" to God's command.

12. His neighbors would ridicule him for his credulity, and it may well have been drunken jokes; his work would be called Noah's folly (lack of good judgment, prudence, and maturity before acting).

13. But above all these considerations and much more, Noah triumphed with his faith.

14. And you?

15. He did everything exactly according to the instructions given to him, and once his task had begun, he "did not abandon it until he had finished it"; so, he worked and so we must act.

16. We must be ready to meet the "Lord in His judgments" on earth and especially "to meet Him at the hour of death, for you will know that you are to die, and you will give an account and in the judgment of the great day, being built on the Rock that is Christ (Matthew 7:24) to enter the Ark that is Christ.

17. Every blow of Noah's axe, hammers sounding was a call to repentance since they too had to prepare their coffers.

18. (Genesis 22:2-3) The author of this test: God tested Abraham, not to induce him into sin, but to discover how great His grace was in him, resulting in praise, glory, and honor.

19. You know: God proves; Thus, God tested Job, that he might show himself "not only as a good man," but as a "great man"; Are you "a great man"?

20. God tempted Abraham, as the Hebrew says, as others read, "raised Abraham"; Like a schoolboy who is "promoted to a higher class", having passed "with all brilliance" the test of a difficult exam.

21. Take now that child of you, that one of you, the one you love, that Isaac.

22. The place: In the land of Moriah, three days on the road; that you may have time to reflect and thus "the service of your faith and obedience" may be more reasonable and more honorable.

23. The way: Offer him there in holocaust.

24. Not only must he put his son to death, but he must "sacrifice him in a burnt offering."

25. Abraham's obedience to this most severe precept, order.

26. God gave him no reason for it (sacrifice).

27. He had given him many promises in Isaac, now what?

28. Now Isaac is to die.

29. Human blood was forbidden: What benefit is there in his blood?

30. What would Sarah, the Egyptians and the Canaanites say?

31. Know, brother, those who do God's will wholeheartedly do it with all diligence.

32. It prepares everything for sacrifice, but the greatest for silence.

33. In solitude: the servants out of their obedience, Isaac without knowing such silence of Abraham's obedience. Amen.
