Faithful companion to the end – 2 Timothy 4:11 The only one who is with me is Luke. Luke writes of his great companion Paul, his last experiences and suffers them, endures, and lives them with him, the reason: Demas has abandoned me loving the world. He is the author of Luke and Acts. He is a Gentile who wrote a part of the New Testament. Luke is the only New Testament writer who clearly identifies as a non-Jew.

I. (Colossians 4:14) Luke the beloved doctor greets you.

A. Perhaps Luke's interest in medicine is why the gospel gives great importance to the healings Jesus performed.

1. He was a bearer of investigation of the life of Jesus.

2. (Philemon 1:24) My collaborators (a person who is "always" willing to help), that was Luke.

3. Luke, the beloved physician, proved to be a faithful "companion" and helper to the end.

4. (2 Timothy 4:11) The beloved doctor Luke who was the "only" one who maintained contact with Paul is in Rome.

5. How it must have meant for the apostle to have the spiritual encouragement and professional prowess of this great man of God!

6. (Acts 27:1) Paul is sent to Rome.

7. Luke writes Paul's departure for Rome.

8. (V.7) Sailing slowly "many days slowly, the wind was very strong”.

9. Navigation was already dangerous.

10. Already (v.9) it must have been late September or early October, since fasting (the Day of Atonement) had already passed.

11. Paul warns him of the dangers that are even lost lives. And there are Luke's eyes and memory guarding these events of danger and pain.

12. (Acts 16:6-11) Luke joined Paul at Troas in Asia Minor, during Paul's second missionary journey.

13. Scholars think it was Luke "the Macedonian man" (Turkey), whom Paul (v.9) saw in his dream.

14. Luke stayed in Philippi during the second missionary journey (Acts 17:1) and was picked up again to join Paul on the third journey (Acts 20:5-6): "They waited for us in Troas."

15. Luke accompanied Paul on his journey to Jerusalem and Rome and was with him there during his imprisonment (2 Timothy 4:11).

16. Luke's clear description of his travels with Paul in Acts 27 seems to indicate that he had traveled a lot and had much knowledge in navigation.

17. In what he lived he had a great dedication to learn.

18. When Luke became a Christian, he gave himself up and joined the apostles and disciples. (Acts 16:10).

19. (Acts 20:5,12) The brethren mentioned went in advance to Troas, while Paul and Luke were visiting Philippi.

20. (V.6,7) It seems that the apostle waited on purpose in Troas for seven days so that he could be there for the breaking of bread on the "Day of the Lord."

21. (V.7) It was the practice of the early Christians to gather "on the first day of the week" for the purpose of celebrating the Lord's Supper.

22. There was Luke (v.11-12), celebrating the Lord's Supper which was an exclusivity for them and is in history.

23. (Acts 21:1-16) He was in moments of the prophet who warned him of a future with tears, sorrows, loss of that person: tender, kind, with faith, with service and with God.

24. Demas begs him not to go, but (v. 11-13) Paul demands: What are you doing by weeping and breaking my heart?

25. (V.14) And since (Luke) could not persuade him, we gave up, saying, "Let the will of the Lord be done."

26. It was to say to him, "I'll be with you Paul."

27. He was close to Paul (2 Timothy 4:11).

28. He already lost Paul, but he had to investigate: Mary with the revelation of how Jesus would come to earth; the apostles to write about Jesus; Acts are called; Acts of the Apostles. He wrote when Jesus left, information given by the apostles; the coming of the Holy Spirit. He knew of John, Peter, compiled that summary that was heard from the mouth of each one. Of Stephen, his severe death, what Stephen said. Long conversations of Paul, of his life, persecution, conversion, miracles, the topics of discussion of Peter and Paul! James with his care; all Paul's preaching, the escapes, miracles, his tender life, he loved it, cared for him, bound up his wounds, and watched him. Every word of God given to Paul in Luke are great treasures to our eyes that pierce our lives with the truth. Blessed is God who gave such a meek, simple man and loved Paul as God's man here on earth! He respected him, kept silent, and followed him until Paul's death and until his death. Amen.
