Jesus Sad

Jesus Sad - Matthew 25:36-39 The extreme of Jesus' agony, just as His love had also reached the extreme. We should not be surprised in view of this love that Paul says (1 Corinthians 16:22): Whoever does not love the Lord Jesus Christ should be anathema (exclusion from communion, condemned). And he writes it from his own hand. (v.21) I, Paul, write this greeting to you from my own hand.

I. (Luke 22:43-44) Luke records this, as well as that his sweat was like large (lumps) drops of blood.

A. His perfect humanity is seen in the agony that accompanied "His prayer."

1. And an angel appeared to Him to strengthen Him.

2. The angel works what the Father sends him to.

3. Jesus left everything in heaven to arrive as a Man, on earth.

4. Only Luke records this, as well as that "his sweat" was like great drops of thickened blood falling on the earth.

5. This last detail attracted the attention of this careful doctor.

6. Such sadness envelops the disciples. (V.45)

7. (V. 43-44) Bliss: This phenomenon was not just sweat or blood. This is suppressed by the word as, (reason, it does not come from veins, but from sweat and blood that comes out of the heart) the former, by the fact that there was very little force in comparing sweat with blood, with regard merely to its droplet-like shape, or as to its size. It is also the color, caused by the blood seeping through the skin, coagulating as such, so that the sweat was similar to a small compact mass, of a liquid, rounded substance, curdles of blood (clot, lump), not merely droplets, which roll towards the ground. It is very noteworthy that Luke refers to the sweat of blood "not before," but after the "coming of the angel" to comfort Jesus. Where we see that this singular sweat (rare, extravagant) (unique) was the effect of a tremendous reaction, by which the blood that had been withdrawn to the heart, as happens in all cases of dread when the climax of the agony worsens, "with the compensation of angelic consolation, was allied in tremendous rebound towards the periphery (outside), what made the platelets jump (it's for blood clotting, when one of your blood vessels breaks, it starts bleeding. The platelets clot (clump together) to plug the lesion in the blood vessel and stop bleeding) and eventually sneak through the epidermis (outside the skin). In the case of Jesus, the Savior, it is a sign of the extreme to which His agony went, just as His love had also reached the extreme. (John 13:1).

8. (V.43) When Christ entered into agony, an angel from heaven "appeared" to Him to strengthen Him.

9. Though He was not delivered from suffering, He was strengthened and comforted to endure, not only with resignation (He accepted it with patience and love), but with joy: Isaiah 53:11; Jesus will see the fruit of His affliction of His soul and will be satisfied and bear our iniquities.

10. We must know that He possessed a human nature like ours, except sin.

11. Jesus had a human mind in which the Holy Spirit acted decisively.

12. This teaches us that God provides and balances the weight of the burden according to the strength of our shoulders, so we have no reason to complain, whatever trial He puts us through.

13. Angels ministered to the Lord during His trials and sufferings. (Matthew 4:11)

14. Where Jesus was fasting.

15. He did not seek deliverance, He only used them to strengthen Him.

16. (V.44) Being in agony, He prayed more intensely.

17. As His dread (intense fear, fright) and sadness increased, His prayer grew more intense.

18. Prayer is never out of season, but it is especially necessary when we are in great trouble and the more acute the conflict, the more fervent and frequent our prayers must be.

19. Anguish of His holy soul as He anticipated that He was going to be an affront to our sin.

20. There was no response.

21. The sky in silence.

22. We know that there was no other way God could justify guilty sinners "except that Christ, the impeccable (who is so perfect and without faults or errors that He admits not even the slightest reproach) Savior, died as our Substitute. Amen.
