Take Your Affliction

Take Your Affliction – Job 5:17-24 He counsels Job to take "his affliction" as a discipline from his good Father. It is the correction of the Almighty.

I. Don't belittle the correction.

A. Changes that must be made in life.

1. Reason: to correct faults, errors, defects and so on.

2. Discipline comes from the love of a good father and aims at the good of the child. (Hebrews 12:6) For the Lord disciplines and scourges everyone He receives as a son.

3. Affliction is like the voice of God sending us a message from heaven.

4. "Blessed is the man whom God corrects." (Job 5:17)

5. If you take advantage of the correction that God sends, the correction that comes to you is sure evidence (conviction, certainty) of sanctification.

6. You must stop desiring what does not belong to you, you will destroy yourself and yours.

7. (Job 5:18) When God produces wounds with the rebukes of His Providence, He binds them up and heals them with the consolations of His Spirit.

8. Eliphaz personally addresses Job and declares many great promises of the good things God would do for him if he humbled himself under the hand of his Maker.

9. (Job 5:19) It is promised here.

10. Envy = mental, it is pain or misery, sadness, or spite of the good of others of the envied, I do not have what he has.

11. Many times afflictions come, as many times "loving deliverances" will also ensue.

12. The number seven symbolizes here, as always, wholeness and perfection.

13. (Job 5:20) When public calamities come, the just will enjoy peculiar (that which goes beyond what is dictated by the norm, different) protection.

14. (Job 5:21) Everything that is said about the good ones with slander or to destroy their reputation will be null and void and will not harm them.

15. The best and most innocent cannot be free from slander, reproach, and false accusations.

16. From these things the holiest man cannot be saved, but "God can protect him (protect, receive no harm) and make wicked slanderers not disturb his peace or stain his reputation.

17. They will enjoy holy serenity of mind, born of their trust in God, in the midst of the dangers that lie in wait for them: They will not fear destruction (Job 5:21), nor the beasts of the field (Job 5:22).

18. Paul speaks with great joy and satisfaction of the helplessness of death and the grave (1 Corinthians 15:55), "convinced that nothing, not even death, can separate us from the love of Christ (Romans 8:35-39).

19. (Job 5:23) Being at peace with God, there will also be a covenant of peace between the just and the whole creation; neither the "stones" will impede the fertility of their field, nor the "beasts", will "spoil" the "crops".

20. (Job 5:24-25) Their homes and families will enjoy, have not been harmed and will have prosperity: "Peace in your tent."

21. That is, your house will be in complete security and prosperity.

22. Blessed is the man whom God punishes (Job 5:17).

23. The same will happen with his possessions: when he goes to see them, "nothing will be missed."

24. (Job 5:25) His family will be large: his offspring (lineage, children) will spring from the bosom like the grass that spends splendid in the field after the rain.

25. Even though you have lost all your children, it seems to tell Job, if you turn to God, He will rebuild increasingly your family.

26. (Job 5:26) His death will come in time and seasoning (point or maturity of things, state of perfection, time opportunely).

27. "They will end the course of life" with "joy" and "honor."

28. We went down to the tomb in a good old age.

29. (Job 5:27) Inquired (to find out, to inquire) Hear it and know it for your benefit!

30. "What was examined of God is true."

31. The best thing for Job in these times of loss, pain, brokenness, punishment, even if it is not known why is "to listen to it and apply it to his advantage."

32. It is not enough to hear and know the truth, but we must walk in it and become wiser and better through it.

33. Church, open your ears and apply the knowledge of the truth, leave behind the pride and the sense of superiority and vanity so that you will be free. Amen.
