Your Law Breaks Me Because I Broke It

"Your Law Breaks Me Because I Broke It" - James 2:10 To break "one point" of the law is to become guilty of "all." The law is like a chain of ten links. If we break one, the chain breaks. "God does not allow us" to keep the laws we want and break others.

I. All sin is a breaking of the entire law.

A. The reason is that every order of the law is an expression of God's will.

1. And God's commands are backed by God's authority.

2. When we break them, then we have God as the enemy.

3. What we challenge is the torment in our lives every day and every night.

4. Whoever breaks it rebels against the divine will and despises God's sovereign authority.

5. Thousands upon thousands live tormented and insane for having broken a law of God's sovereignty.

6. There is no body that can resist God in His defiance in breaking His ordinances.

7. The flesh challenges, but in God is power, in one the sad pride that leads to burial.

8. He who denies any precept of God despises the word of the Lord and renders the precepts null and void.

B. Psalm 119:65-72 For I believed in Your commands.

1. (v. 65) You have treated Your servant well, O Jehovah, according to Your word.

2. How insignificant we can be when we understand how sovereign God is and with all this, He has taken us into account and gives us decree, because He knows very well what we can do.

3. (v. 66) Teach me good sense and wisdom.

4. The reason: we are talking about His commandments, decrees, orders that we must fulfill.

5. Brutalized is rebellion.

6. Intellectuals: they now lack wisdom.

7. Only the Holy Spirit can fill us with light with His decrees, let us not be "children" in knowledge and understanding.

8. Reason for our life as a believer: Because I have believed Your commandments.

9. Certainly, there is faith in the commandments as there is in the promises.

10. We are to believe that God is their Author and that they are the expression of legislative (formulating laws) and ordering will and that we are obliged to obey them.

11. Faith is to discern between the sovereignty and goodness of the Lawgiver and to believe that His commands are holy, just, and good; it is also to teach us that God loves those who keep His law and is angry with those who trespass it, and that He will cause His law to be vindicated (claim, defend) on the last great day.

12. (v. 67) Before I was humiliated, I went astray.

13. Why does a little neglect cause us so much disturbance?

14. What petty hearts (lack of generosity) it is that make the "abundance of God's goodness an occasion of sin!

15. Thus, God diminishes "our riches, etc. (strength), so that we do not overstep our limits and glory too much.

16. Through affliction, God removes sin (which He hates) from the soul, which He loves.

17. (v. 68) You are good, and You are a benefactor (who does good).

18. All the glory we can give to God is to reflect (mirror, return the reflection, show) His own glory upon Himself.

19. We can say no more about God than He is and does.

20. We believe in His goodness and honor Him with our faith; we admire His goodness and glorify Him for His love; We declare this goodness and thus magnify Him with our testimonies.

21. (v. 69) Though the arrogant have smeared me (hammer form) with lies.

22. They mocked, defrauded, and now defame him.

23. Oh, what poison is under a liar's tongue!

24. In every case lived, the pious must be sustained by the testimony of a good conscience.

25. The Psalmist remains faithful to God despite the falsehoods of the proud.

26. "But now I keep His word, 'commandments.'

27. If we try to answer lies with our words, we will lose the battle.

28. A holy life is an unanswerable refutation of all slander.

29. (v. 70) Their hearts thickened like tallow (raw fat, ox).

30. This is how it happens when pride comes, we think we are great.

31. A heart with fat is a horrible thing; this fatness makes man fatuous; A fatty degeneration of the heart leads to weakness and eventually death.

32. O souls in whom there is no heavenly fire, fattened minds, crawling in a quagmire (mud)! C.H.S.

33. Thus, the proud, whose prosperity is compared in other points to fatness, has a heart insensible to the severe reprobation (not approval) of the divine Word.

34. Just as a full stomach dislikes the meat and cannot digest it, so the wicked man hates the Word (ordinance, commands); He can't swallow it.

35. But I have rejoiced in Your law.

36. "When the law becomes a delight, obedience is a blessing."

37. Having the law for our delight will produce in our hearts the opposite of the effects of pride: sensuality, obstinacy, insensitivity will be cured, and we will become sensitive, spiritual, fit to learn.

38. How careful we should be to live under the influence of divine law, lest we fall under the law of sin and death! C.H.S.

39. (v. 71) It has been good for me to have been humiliated.

40. How foolish we are, then, in frowning at our afflictions!

41. We do not receive it for our pleasure, but for our benefit; that they arrive deserves to be welcomed.

42. So that I might learn Your statutes.

43. Very little is learned without affliction.

44. If you want to be understood in something, you have to suffer.

45. God's commands (statutes, commandments, law) are best read with tear-wet eyes.

46. Why not sit at Jesus' feet and quietly learn what we need to learn? Amen.
