"Search Me, O God, and Know My Heart" - Psalm 139:23-24 In Psalm 143:2: Because "No human being shall be justified before You”. (John B. Gough). A young doctor once said, "I don't think I'm a sinner." I asked him if he wouldn't mind if his mother or sister knew everything he had done, said, or thought and all his steps and desires. After a moment he replied, "No, I certainly wouldn't want them to know; not at all." "Then how dare you say, in the presence of the holy God, who knows all the thoughts of your heart, that you have committed no sin?

I. Search me, O God.

A. Know my heart.

1. He had to be by necessity a straight man to deliberately put himself in a crucible (apart from graphite, some clay, blowing elements at high temperatures) in this way.

2. Nevertheless, we can all desire such scrutiny, for it would be a terrible calamity if we still have sins that we did not know in our hearts and did not discover. C.H.S.

3. "Try me and know my thoughts."

4. What a mercy that there is a "Being" who knows us perfectly!

5. He is thoroughly familiar with us.

6. He bends down with His grace toward us and is willing to incline His omniscience to serve the end of our sanctification.

7. Let us pray as David prayed and be as sincere as he was.

8. We cannot hide our sin; salvation lies in the opposite direction, simply in discovering evil and effectively cutting it off from us. C.H.S.

9. The difference between an unconverted man and a converted man is not that the one has sins and the other does not, but that the one sides with his cherished sins against a feared God and the other, on the side of a God, reconciled against his hated sins.

10. Here is a man determined to explore the recesses of his own heart.

11. David was a man who had this courage.

12. It would remain for his history on earth for centuries, what a great force of his love and knowledge, fear of the sovereign God.

13. When he killed a lion along the way, when he got along with a bear, when he beheaded the giant Goliath, he gave undoubted signs of courage; "But he never displayed (unrolling, extending) a fearlessness (courage, bravery, daring) such as when he decided to "examine his own heart."

14. If you were to stand on an eminence and see all the voracious (eating) and poisonous (venomous) wiles (animals) that have existed upon the earth before you; you would have to clothe your heart with great courage to fight against them.

15. Every sin is a devil, and everyone can say, "My name is Legion, because we are many."

16. Who knows what it is to cope with oneself?

17. And yet, if we want to be saved, we must do so.

18. One of the attributes of sin is to "hide" man from “himself” to "disguise" "his deformity", is there any exercise of the soul that any of us have found as unsatisfactory, almost impossible, as the examination of conscience?

19. "Prevent" the formation of a fair concept of their true condition: "not to allow... hide what there is.

20. Self-examination, or soul-searching, is not as simple a thing as it may seem at first glance.

21. No Christian who has practiced it has found it easy.

22. The children of God, the creature who has the greatest intimacy with Him in all Earth.

23. To say: There are latent sins (which exist without manifesting) (hatred, envy, desires) at this moment in you, of which you have no idea; but only a greater measure of spiritual enlightenment is required to mark them and make them stand out.

24. You have no idea of the evil that is in the human being.

25. But, as I say this, let every Christian count the cost well before venturing to ask God to scrutinize him.

26. God scrutinizes thoroughly, He will.

27. The test is not an unimportant thing!

28. How beautiful is David's humility!

29. Search me, O God, and know my heart.

30. The hypocrisy of deluding oneself is that it conceals one's own heart from him and makes him believe that he is more virtuous than he really is.

31. Pure gold is not afraid of the furnace or fire or the test or etching (very corrosive acid); He is not afraid of the gold of law, the scales. The gold that weighs what it should weigh, evidence it as it is weighed; what is gold will be gold, no matter how it is tested, and even if it is tested frequently, it will still be pure gold; What is, will be and will be better than it is. 32. (Psalm 139:24) And see if there is a way of wickedness in me.

33. Just as I abhor every path of wickedness in the wicked, I would also hate it in me. C.H.S.

34. A great feeling to admonish us every day at the beginning of it.

35. There is a path of vanity and pride, to which we often become accustomed.

36. There is a path of egoism, on which we often anchor.

37. There is the path of negligence; What apathy we manifest in prayer in the examination and application of God's Word!

38. Path of disobedience, on which we often walk.

39. Lord, see if there is a path of perversity in me.

40. Let there be nothing that is evil, that is opposed to Your character, repugnant to Your Word.

41. And guide me on the eternal path.

42. Through Your providence, Your word, Your grace, Your Spirit, guide me always. C.H.S. Amen.
