Let Your Spirit Be at Rest

"Let Your Spirit Be at Rest" - Psalm 62:1-12 When we long to be spiritual, we make the decision to say, "My soul rests in God alone," the reason, because my salvation comes from Him. You will stop living for your flesh when you make the decision to see God greater than you.

I. "My soul rests in God alone; the reason, because my salvation comes from Him.

A. Silenced: "It's a quiet wait."

1. To keep in mind that only in God can we confidently, surely, steadfastly, calmly wait for Him to "go into action."

2. Remember that the one who wants to run your life is your soul.

3. To hope in God, and to God, "is the usual position of faith."

4. To truly hope in Him is sincerity; to wait for Him alone is spiritual chastity (purity, honesty).

5. The original is: "Only God in my soul in silence."

6. Luther: Endure patiently and in silence, tell no one your miseries; do not give in to the trial or be dismayed, "for God will deliver you at any moment."

7. To pour out sorrows on a friend is very sweet.

8. He who speaks much of his tribulations to man is apt (able) to fall into the error of speaking little of them to God.

10. (2) He alone is my rock and salvation.

11. David had to hide in rock caverns.

12. "I won't slip much."

13. The wide sea may be moving, but I will not be swept away by the storm.

14. When man knows for sure that the Lord is his salvation cannot be very dejected.

15. The mortified (afflicted) man sings and is not joyful, he weeps and is not sad, he feels zeal for the cause of God, but his spirit is at peace (quiet, stillness); he is not so longing for anything that he cannot give it up for God's sake.

16. How long will you plot against a man? (3)

17. It is a wonder that men willingly follow their vain and sinful courses; and yet to persevere in grace in a difficulty as great as an impossibility, were it not for divine help.

18. "Like a wall that caves in and like a fence that collapses."

19. They expect men to bow down to them and tremble at their presence, but men who are strong in faith see no honor and much to despise. (enemy)

20. It is never good for us to think much of the wicked; Whatever their position, they are close to destruction.

21. (4) They love lying.

22. Lying is bad enough, but delighting in lying is a black mark of infamy (wickedness, vileness).

23. "With their mouths they bless, but they curse in their hearts."

24. Flattery has always been the favorite weapon of the enemies of good men; they may curse harshly when it is useful to them; In the meantime, as befits them, they conceal their anger, and with soft words make it appear that they bless those whom they would tear to pieces. (W.C.H.S.)

25. (5) My soul, rest in God alone.

26. Be still, my soul!

27. Submit completely, remain still, trust patiently.

28. Let us be like our Lord, overcome with passive endurance (resist) of victorious patience, you hope only in Him.

29. Faith without mixture does not faint.

30. (For from Him comes my hope.)

31. We hope in God because we believe in Him.

32. (7) In God is my salvation and my glory.

33. I will glory in the One who saves us.

34. Our honor belongs to the One who secures our souls.

35. Christ is the insignia of our shield.

36. In God is my strong rock and my refuge.

37. David to his God: My rock, my salvation, my glory, my strength, my refuge.

38. (8) Hope in Him at all times, O people.

39. Faith is a permanent duty, a perpetual privilege.

40. To continue in what is good, or to prevent or to take away what is evil.

41. "Pour out your hearts before Him."

42. According to our love, so will our faith and trust in God be, and according to our confidence, so will our liberty be on the throne of grace.

43. Pour it down like water, which, when poured out, has nothing left of it.

44. Pour out of yourself all that you must be free of and there will be no trace left.

45. (9) The sons of men are like a breath.

46. They are only vanity, nothing more.

47. "The sons of men lied."

48. For this reason, they are a lie: because they promise much, and in the end, when trusted, they only produce deception.

49. When they are all weighed together on a scale, they will be less than nothing.

50. (10) Do not trust in violence or plunder.

51. He who puts his trust for salvation in someone, but God, not only loses salvation, but also robs God of glory and does God an injury.

52. If riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

53. Just as we are not to rest on man, neither are we to rest on money.

54. Gain and fame are just meerschaum.

55. (11) Twice have I heard it.

56. That the power belongs to God.

57. He who hears with his heart and with his ears.

58. "The power is from God."

59. "Faith is never forsaken until the soul doubts the power of God."

60. Thus, the life and strength of faith are greatly strengthened by belief in the power of God.

61. (12) And thine, O Lord, is mercy.

62. God is thus full of mercy that belongs to Him.

63. God repays you according to your works.

64. God is divine justice.

65. In life, everyone is repaid according to His righteousness. Amen.
