Obedience to Jesus

"Obedience to Jesus" - Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do Your will. It doesn't say, "Teach me to know Your will," but to do Your will. God teaches us in three ways: first through His Word; secondly, it enlightens our minds with the Spirit, and thirdly, it imprints (mark on our hearts, on our minds, to introduce something forcefully, to fix an idea) "His will on our hearts" and "makes us obedient" to it; "For the servant who knoweth his master's will and does not do it shall be scourged" with many blows.

I. (Luke 12:47-48) A fundamental principle regarding "all" service.

A. This principle is that the greater the privilege, the greater the responsibility (charge of conscience, commitment or obligation).

1. To obey is a quality of docility, submission, it is to maintain the precepts (order or command) imposed by an authority.

2. It is accepting God's will, because at the end of the day He is the one who knows how to do and live on the whole earth.

3. Those who have come to know the "will of God" as revealed in the Scriptures are under "a great responsibility to obey them."

4. To whom much has been given, much will be demanded of him.

5. Remember your struggle, it's with your old man, who deceives you.

6. (John 14:23) If someone truly loves the Lord, he will keep His "whole teaching," not just isolated "commandments."

7. The Father loves those who are willing to obey His Son without doubt or reservation.

8. The Father and the Son are especially close to these "loving and obedient" hearts.

9. (James 1:22) It is not enough to receive the implanted Word; we must obey it.

10. We are to translate the Bible into action, it is to obey it.

11. The Word is to become flesh in our lives, it is our body, it is obedience personified (human properties).

12. Scripture should never come into our lives without changing our lives for the better, because it must be obeyed.

13. (1 John 3:21-22) We obey our Lord and obey His commands, for we will not be rebuked.

14. Obeying Him, for we have a clear conscience before God.

15. It is "confessing and forsaking" our sins, we obey the Lord.

16. What we ask and receive from Him, because we obey and keep His commandments, are not burdensome, and obeying leads us to do the things that are pleasing in the sight of our Jesus.

17. To keep in obedience is to abide in Him, there is no separation from Jesus because we are obedient in Him.

18. To obey it is to live in close and vital intimacy with the Savior.

19. When we obey Him, we are in communion with Him, we make His will our own, it is not weighing, it is pleasing, we respect and love Him, we are one.

20. (Acts 5:29-32) Earlier, the apostles had prayed for courage to speak the Word.

21. Now with courage from on high, they insisted that their "obligation" was to obey God rather than men.

22. We are His witnesses of His wonders, we are obedient to what He commands us, to His Word which is His voice.

23. God has given the Holy Spirit, which God has given to those who obey.

24. (Philippians 2:6-8) But He didn't consider being equal to God as something to hold on to (grasp, stubbornness, hold tightly).

25. Here it is of the utmost importance to distinguish between personal and positional equality (position, posture) with God.

26. As for His person, Christ always was, is, and will always be equal with God.

27. It would be impossible for Him to leave this.

28. He did not regard this position as something He had to hold on to at all costs.

29. When a world with a lost humanity needed to be redeemed, He was willing to give up His positional equality with God.

30. (7) But He denuded of Himself.

31. He emptied Himself in obedience.

32. Taking the form of a servant, made in the likeness of men.

33. He emptied Himself to take upon Himself something He had never had before – the human condition.

34. He did not set aside His deity, only His place in Heaven, and that only temporarily.

35. (8) He humbled Himself by becoming obedient unto death.

36. He obeyed, even though it cost Him His life.

37. Obedient unto death means that He obeyed to the end.

38. Until the death and death in the cross.

39. His obedience was even the most disgraceful (shameful, low, dishonorable) form of execution.

40. And this was the form of "death" reserved for the Best of Heaven when He came into this world.

41. He was to die the "shameful death of the Cross". Amen.
