Better the treasures of God

"Better the treasures of God" - 1 Samuel 30:15-16 Four hundred men tired, but in pursuit. In exchange for a promise of safety, he led David to the camp of the Amalekites. The last thing the drunken Amalekites expected was an "uninvited guest" at "their victory celebration." I. And behold, they were "scattered over" all that land.

A. Eating and drinking and partying.

1. This is how ordinary humans live, who don't fight their fair share in life.

2. David had a people to defend because he loved them and had been called to service.

3. (Psalm 119:162) I rejoice in Your Word.

a. I'm glad, I'm glad, I found a great booty.

b. How much more appropriate are these great praises to the Book of God, rightly called the Bible or the Book, for in reality it is, as much by the appropriateness of the terms "as the fulness of truth," the one book before which (Luther) all the other books of the world" are wasted paper.

c. It is called the Word because of its eminence (protruding), because it must be the target and boundary (separation between two things) "of all our words," and Scripture, as lording it over all other writings of men.

4. I encountered the Word and I'm full of shining treasures and it's better than all the sayings and blah, blah of the voices that haven't loved the treasures, that God has for the Church.

5. (Jeremiah 15:16) The Word of God, which he used to preach to others, he had experienced in his own soul, and therefore had the grace of the Spirit which qualified him for divine favor.

6. "Thy words" were found, found by me, "when I received them gladly, and not only tasted them, but ate them entirely.

7. To Jeremiah it was the most exquisite food for a person who is hungry for His Word: What do you want?

8. (Ezekiel 2:8) ... Open your mouth and eat what I give you.

9. Jeremiah says, Thy Words were found, and I ate them; And Your Word was for me for joy and for the gladness of my heart...

10. Jeremiah's message was the destruction of Israel, but in all that Jeremiah would have a notable share, of those judgments that would come to his nation at last "zeal for the glory of God, and even these messages of wrath, being (messenger) divine messages, were a satisfaction to him.

11. I found Your Word and they were ready for me, and I ate them, Your Word produces joy in my stomach and for the joy of my heart Your name was invoked for my help.

12. Yet the prophet is perplexed by his persecution and suffering, especially since he has been faithful to the Lord.

13. (Proverbs 16:19) What do you want more in life?

a. Are you humbled?

b. It is better to humble the spirit.

c. The Amalekites celebrated their conquests, they had a joyful heart and turned to feasts, meals and pleasures, at a distance was David, to overthrow all those plans of victory.

d. How good is the silence, the simplicity, the tranquility, how good is the few friends, how good it is only with the family, how good it is to eat at home, how good it is to have almost no guests, how good it is that they don't know anything about you, how much there is to celebrate with the one who gives everything.

e. "It is better to humble the spirit."

f. How much you were hurt by what I told you.

g. I assure you that you do not want to be a companion of the humble.

h. Someone said, "Do you want to be the main one?" Then serve with humility. Do you want to be the highest? Then it starts to go down; But however low you may become, "The High and Exalted One humbled Himself even more.

14. (Isaiah 9:3) All who wait patiently for the precious fruits of the earth do the harvest and the grape harvest with great joy.

15. Those who have fought hard battles rejoice when they divide the spoils.

16. Knowing the Lord brings us abundance and victory.

17. Christ's first coming brought "light to Galilee."

18. His Second Coming will bring "joy" to the nation and put an end to slavery and war. Amen.
