"The Holy Spirit Will Lead You" - 1 Kings 18:12 Obadiah's fear was that Ahab would kill him for not laying hands on Elijah when he had him within reach, for the king would be mocked if the prey escaped him. He appeals that he does not deserve to be exposed to such danger, since he has behaved well with the prophets of God: (9) In what have I sinned? He hoped that the one who had protected so many prophets would not have his life threatened "by so great a prophet."

I. Obadiah knew that it was Jehovah's Spirit that led him.

A. Obadiah feared the God of Elijah.

1. The one God is with, He takes him. (Luke 1:15)

2. Now we can know John the Baptist, the one who came to prepare the way before Him.

3. This child was to be "great in the sight of the Lord."

4. It was great for God; it was going to be useful to Him of the destiny of the Messiah's arrival on earth.

5. It was a pioneer who would prepare for the king's visit when He was about to arrive in Israel.

6. John was of priestly lineage.

7. First, he would be great in his personal separation from God: he would "never drink wine" (grape) or liquor (made of grain).

8. It would be great in its spiritual excellence; he would be "filled with the Holy Spirit" even from his mother's womb.

9. The Spirit of God was in him from the beginning to prepare him for "his special mission" as a forerunner of Christ.

10. For the Holy Spirit will take him where God needed him.

11. (Luke 4:1) There was never a time in our Lord's life when He was not filled with the Holy Spirit, but He does mention it here specifically in connection with His temptation.

12. To be "filled with the Holy Spirit" means to be totally surrendered to Him and to be totally obedient "to every word of God."

13. A Spirit-filled person is void of known sin and "self" and richly dwells the "Word of God."

14. When Jesus was returning "from the Jordan," where He had been baptized, He was "led by the Spirit into the wilderness," into the Judean Wilderness, along the western shore of the Dead Sea.

15. (Acts 2:4) The miracle that was to be experienced, connected with Pentecost, was the filling of the Holy Spirit, which would be followed by speaking "in other tongues."

16. Up to this time, the Spirit of God had been with the disciples, but now He took up His abode in them (John 14:17).

17. (John 14:16) Beginning from the time of Pentecost, the Spirit of God began to dwell permanently in people—He came to abide.

18. Then He will take you wherever you need to go.

19. On the day of Pentecost, believers not only became the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, but they were also filled with Him.

20. The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us the moment we are saved, but to be filled with the Spirit we must study the Word, spend time in prayer, and live in obedience to the Lord.

21. He will lead us to be useful.

22. (Acts 4:31) When they had finished praying, the place... trembled, it is a physical expression of the spiritual power present.

23. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, "indicating their obedience to the Lord, their walking in light, their surrender to Him.

24. They continued to speak boldly (courage, energy, and decisiveness, courage) the Word of God.

25. (Acts 7:55-58) They rushed at Stephen, dragged him out of the city walls, and "began to stone him."

26. Stephen's death resembled that of our Lord.

27. (59) He prayed, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."

28. (Luke 23:46) Jesus had prayed, "Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit."

29. He prayed, Lord, do not hold this sin against them (60) Acts 7:60.

30. (Luke 23:34) Jesus had prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."

31. (Acts 11:24) A man filled with the Holy Spirit and good.

32. Barnabas was sent to Antioch and the Holy Spirit did so in the guidance, tutelage, orientation and rule (guardianship, information, direct, govern or command).

33. The Holy Spirit would lead Barnabas to the work of the Father.

34. This beloved brother saw at once that the Lord was working mightily among these Gentiles, so he "exhorted” (23) all to remain faithful to the Lord with a purpose of heart, for He was doing in them.

35. How good it is to have people filled with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and "with faith."

36. They were added to the Lord.

37. (Acts 13:52) And the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

38. It was not an easy time for Paul and Barnabas, but the Holy Spirit led them to Iconium.

39. Nothing can take away the Spirit from us, nor trials, nor persecution, or rejections. Amen.
