For 'the house' is not for man

"For 'the house' is not for man" – 1 Chronicles 29:1-3 Although King David had already "given" much for temple work, yet, as a final offering and as an example to the people, he dedicated "more silver" and "gold" from his private funds and encouraged the "people" to give generously. His generous response brought joy to their own hearts and to the king's heart.

I. Before dismissing the congregation.

A. He urged them to contribute, according to the possibilities of each one.

1. Yesterday, I can imagine that it was a tragic day for Israel, fatal actions that generate horror and compassion.

2. There are those who have lost lives, homes and other things.

3. And talking about having a house for God is what can fill me with peace, joy and the great encounter with God Himself, who cares for us and favors us.

4. David urged (hasten) the representatives of the Israelites to seek contribution to the temple work.

5. "Without imposing on them" as a tribute to what they were to give, shows that it is a wonderful opportunity to make freewill offerings, since what is used in works of piety and charity must be given from the heart, not by force.

6. They had to consider that "Solomon was very young" and (20 years old) needed help"; But after all, he was the person God had chosen to do this work.

7. They also had to consider that the work was colossal (excellent, extraordinary, beyond the ordinary, enormous) and all hands had to contribute to carrying it out.

8. He has made great preparations for it.

9. He does not intend to lay all the burden upon them, but he wants them to show their good will and add to what he has prepared (2): "I have prepared with all my strength for the house of my God."

10. He sets a good example for them.

11. From his personal fortune he had generously offered for the beautification and enrichment "of the house of God" 3,000 talents of gold and 7,800 of silver, and they, because they had set their hearts on the house of their God.

12. So, he encourages them to do the same: And who wants to make a "freewill" offering to Jehovah today: "to fill our hands for Jehovah."

13. This is a man who loved the house that is not for man.

14. Let's look at his spirituality with his God:

a. (Psalm 23:6) In the house of the Lord I will dwell for long days.

b. It is possible for an infidel to drop down in the house of God and say a prayer, etc., but the prophet (and so it should be with all godly men) is in it perpetually; His soul is always before the throne of grace, asking for more grace. "An infidel prays just as the rooster crows; the rooster crows and ceases and crows again and ceases again and does not think of crowing again until he is doing it; so a wicked (unjust) man

prays and ceases, prays and ceases again; "His mind is never occupied in thinking whether his prayers are heard or not; he believes that it is a good practice for him to pray and therefore assumes that his prayers are heard, although in reality God never hears his prayers and repeats them as if it were a noise or sound. … (William Turner in "The Sacrifice of the Faithful").

15. (Psalm 26:8) O LORD, I have loved the habitation of Thy house.

a. "I have in my Congregation," said a venerable (respectable) minister of the Gospel, "an old lady who for many years has been deaf as a wall but is always among the first to sit down at the hour of the meeting.

b. When asked the reason for her constant attendance, even though she could not hear the sermon, she replied, "Though I cannot hear you, 'I come to the house of God because I want to do it, and I want to be in His ways.' and God gives me sweet thoughts" "about the text" when prompted, another reason is that I am among the best company here, in the most immediate (near) presence of God, "and among His saints," the worthy (worthy) of the earth. I am not satisfied to serve God privately; My duty and privilege is to honor Him regularly in public." 16. (Psalm 27:4) Let me be in the house of Jehovah "all the days of my life."

a. To behold the beauty of Jehovah.

b. We are not to enter the assembly of the saints "to see" and "be seen" or merely to hear.

c. "Holiness is beautiful from Jehovah."

17. (Psalm 84:10) For better is one day in Your courts than a thousand outside of them.

a. To be in the courtyard, the court is to come to God, and then to enter God directly.

b. A sign of one who is a child of God is to delight in being in the presence of God for a long time.

c. Children are to be in the presence of their father; where God is present, "there is heaven".

18. (Psalm 122:1) I rejoiced when they said to me, "To the house of the Lord we will go."

a. David's heart rejoiced in the worship of God, and he delighted when he found "others" who invited him to go where his desires were: it stimulates the ardor of the most ardent to "hear others" who invite him to fulfill a holy desire. Amen.
