God is with him who lives his cause

"God is with him who lives his cause" - Esther 4:5-17 There is no one who can communicate the cause of the people to Esther, Mordecai cannot communicate. So strict was the confinement suffered by Persian wives, especially that of the king. God provides, they were able to communicate through Hatac, one of the servants who were in the service of the queen.

I. What was wrong with Mordecai, why didn't he take off his sackcloth (a dress of rough rank or animal hair).

A. What was happening for him to insistently adopt such an attitude?

1. (7) Mordecai told him all that had happened: Because he had not paid Haman the homage that he required of all, Haman's vengeance was a grave contempt. (rebellion).

2. (8) He also sent her a copy of the edict (order, command) so that she might see for herself how imminent, and grave was the danger "in which she was herself," as well as the other Jews.

3. It was necessary to "be in haste" to intercede with the king and undo the deceptions, a lie that Haman had rigged (situation, arranged) to persuade the king to sign the cruel edict.

4. She lets Mordecai know that she could not address the king "without danger of her own life."

5. Esther was already conditioned by the customs of the Persians.

6. The law was explicit, and everyone knew it, in the sense that whoever came to the king without being called had to die without remission (forgiveness) except the one who the king extends the golden scepter. (11).

7. (11) Her case, in the present situation, was desperate.

8. Providence had arranged that, precisely at this juncture, the king's affection for her seemed to have cooled, for she had not been called to see the king for the last thirty days.

9. Mordecai still insisted that, whatever risk she might take, she must endure, resist, suffer, and intercede with the king because of the extreme gravity of the matter.

10. (13, 14) He implies:

a. That she herself was in danger, since the decree to destroy all the Jews did not exclude her (13): "Do not imagine that by being in the king's house you will be free. You are a Jew and if the other Jews perish, you too will perish.

b. That the cause, being God's cause, "could not die": if she did not intervene in the matter, "deliverance would come from somewhere for the Jews" (14), but she and her father's family (including Mordecai himself) would perish even if the other families of the Jews were preserved.

c. That Providence had arranged that for that she should be chosen to be queen: "And who knows if for such an occasion as this you have become queen?

11. With this Esther resolved to appeal to the king, but not before she and her friends appealed to God.

12. Let us first obtain God's favor in prayer, and then we can expect to obtain favor from whomever is needed (15-16).

13. With the devotion of a good Israelite because she believed that God's favor is obtained through prayer.

14. She also knew that, in extraordinary cases such as the present, devout Jews added fasting to prayer.

15. She desired that the Jews living in the capital should fast for her, that they should meet in their respective synagogues, pray for her, and observe three days of solemn (formal) fasting.

16. She, on her part, with her maidens who attended her (to serve), would sanctify this fast privately in the family rooms.

17. With the courage and resolution of a queen: "After interceding before God in this way, I will go in to the king to intercede with him for my people, I know that it is not according to the law of the Persians, but it is according to the law of God.

18. So, I venture to anything: "And if I perish, let me perish."

19. I can't risk my life for a better cause.

20. I prefer to do my duty and die with my other compatriots.

21. She did not speak in this way out of desperation, but out of a holy resolution (resolve, decision) to do her duty and leave for God the burden of the consequences, "with full trust in Providence." Amen
