I Will Wait Patiently for The Lord

"I Will Wait Patiently for The Lord" - Psalm 40:1-4 In our mouths there are complaints, lament. In our lives we must learn what the Word says and that's it. Many times, it is better to scream (shout, cry) that confuses faith and faith can do nothing and remain paralyzed (stopping, preventing action and movement). Our words are what we don't know what to do. It can be for many reasons.

I. (Hebrews 10:5-9) The speaker is Jesus the Messiah.

A. He waited patiently for Jehovah.

1. Who will hear His prayer and deliver Him from death.

2. Nor did our blessed Lord ever receive instant answers to His prayers.

3. But He recognized that the delay did not mean the denial of the request.

4. God answers prayer when it is the best time to fulfill His purposes in our lives.

5. The Savior likens His glorious deliverance from death to being rescued "from a dreadful pit and from the miry mire."

6. Who can imagine what it meant for the Giver of life to come out of the grave victorious over sin, over Satan, over death and over the grave, alive forever!

7. Although Christ's rescue was unique, in a lesser sense all of us experienced God's power by saving us from the "pits" and "muds" of life.

8. We all know that life is full of these deep wells.

9. The believer walking away from the Lord also finds himself in dangerous mud.

10. There are muds of disease, suffering and sadness.

11. Often, when we look for guidance, it feels like we're in a dark basement.

12. And of course, sometimes we get entangled in mourning, loneliness, and discouragement.

13. These are unforgettable experiences, moments when we pray, cry and groan, but there seem to be no answers.

14. We need to learn from our Savior's example and wait patiently on Jehovah.

15. God in His good time and as only He knows how to do, will come to our side, "bring us out of the pit", "put our feet on a rock" (large unhewn stone, as produced by nature) and secure our steps.

16. (Psalm 40:3) Notice that God is the "source" of our "praise" as much as its object (everything that can be a matter of knowledge or sensibility).

17. He puts in our "mouth" a new song and it is a song of "praise" to our God.

18. Our rescue results not only in praise to God, but also in testimony to others.

19. "Many will see this and fear."

20. It was never so real as it was in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

21. Think of the almost countless number of pilgrims of faith who have been won to the living God through the miracle of the empty tomb!

22. (Psalm 40:4) Thinking of those who have tasted and seen that the Lord is good, the resurrected Redeemer affirms one of the greatest and most fundamental truths of the spiritual life: "Blessed is the man who put his trust in Jehovah."

23. "True happiness" and "fulfillment" in life comes "only" through "faith in God."

24. We have been "created in such a way" that we can only realize the purpose for our lives when we acknowledge God as our Lord and Master.

25. (Pascal): "There is a void in the human heart whose dimensions only God can fill!"

26. And Augustine put it this way: "Thou hast made us, O Lord, unto Thyself; and our heart will not rest until it rests in You!"

27. The blessed man not only seeks God but also "turns away from 'proud' men (haughty, proud) and from the followers of false gods.

28. He is not deceived by two of life's greatest disappointments: the idea that the honor of proud men is "important" and the concept (idea, thought) that the false desires of materialism, pleasures, can satisfy the human heart.

29. The blessed man is more concerned with the "approval of God than with that of men" and recognizes that "the fulness of joy is found only in the presence of God," not in the company of those who worship in idol temples. Amen
