"The Prince of Shepherds" – Psalm 119:6-7 Why does a little neglect cause us so much disturbance (has altered his reason)? Can there be no rests without mold appearing? Can we not be satiated without getting fat? We never ascend (go up) on one side without descending (go down) on the other! What stingy hearts are those who make the abundance of God's goodness an occasion for sin!
I. Not that he turned away from his God willingly, with malice, wickedness, or contempt.
A. (Psalm 119:176) Not that he turned away from his God willingly, with wickedness, malice, or contempt; but because of the weakness of the flesh, the corruption (gaining benefit) that prevailed, the strength of temptation, and mostly because of a "careless," indifferent, and negligent state of mind.
1. He got off the right path and went astray before he knew it.
2. (Proverbs 21:16) This man who turns away is like one who wanders in the "Sahara" of sin.
3. When he is last seen, he lies in the company of the dead.
4. "He who turns away from the path of wisdom will come to the company of the dead."
5. The path of piety is the path of prudence (care, good sense); there is no error for those who walk in it.
6. The reckless (without good judgment, he is not careful) who wanders constantly, will only find rest when he dies.
7. (Proverbs 27:8) A man who leaves home is "discontented" and restless.
8. He is passionate about the idea of traveling, seeing the world, and having an adventure.
9. It is like an air that leaves its place, shying away from its responsibilities without taking root or building anything solid and substantial (important, valuable, important factor).
10. (Lamentations 4:14) They wavered like the blind in the streets.
11. The city that was considered impregnable (unconquerable) has fallen.
12. Everything has been a consequence of the sins of his prophets, his priests and the people.
13. In vain did they wait for help from outside; in concrete (something determined and precise), of a nation that cannot save them, that is, of Egypt.
14. Without help from the outside and left by the hand of God.
15. Now they get their pay.
16. The most probable explanation: in payment for their sins, they now wander the streets; they fear the vengeance of the simple citizens, who see in them people contaminated with blood (14), and therefore the same as the lepers, people whose contact had to be avoided.
17. Even in foreign nations (15b) they were denied stay.
18. Jehovah Himself has scattered them (16).
19. (Proverbs 2:15) In various ways, these false teachers resemble the prophet Balaam son of Beor. (Numbers 22-24)
20. They falsely present themselves as God's spokesmen.
21. They lead others to sin.
22. But the main similarity is that they employ ministry as a means of enrichment.
23. Balaam was the Midianite prophet hired by the king of Moab to curse Israel.
24. His motive for doing so was money.
25. (Jude 13) They are wild beasts, unruly waves of evil, wild and raging.
26. With all their noise and movement, they have nothing more to show but the foam of their shame.
27. They glory in what they should be ashamed of and leave nothing substantial or of value behind them.
28. Finally, they are like wandering stars for whom the gloominess of darkness is eternally reserved.
29. "Wandering stars" are celestial bodies that do not move in a regular orbit.
30. They are worthless as a navigational aid.
31. What a fitting description of false teachers!
32. It is impossible to get spiritual direction from these religious meteors, from these shooting stars and comets of religion, which glow brightly for a moment and then go out in the darkness like ephemeral fireworks.
33. (1 Peter 2:25) "For you were like lost sheep."
34. Before conversion, we were like sheep straying, lost, derailing, bruising, and bleeding.
35. When we are saved, we will return to the Shepherd, the good Shepherd who laid down His life for the sheep (John 10:11); the great Shepherd who feeds (shepherds) with tender and indefatigable (tireless, inexhaustible) care for the flock for which He shed His blood and the Prince of Shepherds will "soon appear" to lead His sheep "into the green pastures of the heights" from which they will never go astray.
36. Conversion is to return "to the Guardian" of our souls. We belong to Him by creation, but we are lost through sin.
37. Now we return to His diligent care and are saved and secure forever. Amen
