The Wisdom of God

"The Wisdom of God" – Proverbs 8:22 (John 1:1) God never existed without the Person of His Son. Here the meaning is exactly what John wrote: "In the beginning... the Word was with God... His eternal generation, Jehovah possessed me in the beginning." We are not to think that the word "possessed" implies that Christ had a beginning. God never existed without the quality or attribute of wisdom, any more than He existed without the Person of His Son.

I. (Job 12:13) It affirms the inscrutable (that which cannot be ascertained or discovered, impossible to know) wisdom and the irresistible power of God.

A. It is true that age, with experience, lends wisdom to many.

1. With age strength is lost, while God has in an infinite degree wisdom and power; wisdom to plan His designs and power to carry out what He has planned.

2. He does not need to ask for advice or gain experience through observation, but all of this He has essentially from all eternity.

3. (Psalm 104:24) The earth is full of Your benefits (profit, usefulness, fruit).

4. The variety of God's "works" (work that costs, time that requires the execution of something) is staggering.

5. "What wisdom has designed all this!" (Knox).

6. The earth is full of His creatures, and He cares for each of them with wonderful attention to detail.

7. The sea is teeming with life, both large and small, from whales to plankton (microscopic organisms, creatures, beings, body).

8. (Proverbs 3:19-20) It describes God's wisdom in creation, in judgment, and in providence.

9. In God's creation, He founded the earth and established the heavens.

10. With knowledge, "He opened the fountains of the deeps in the flood."

11. In His providence, He raises (climbs) the water from the ocean into the clouds and then distributes it back as rain on the earth.

12. (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:2) And who is the active agent who does all this in the Trinity?

13. Christ is the Wisdom of God.

14. (Daniel 2:20-23) Daniel praises God for this revelation.

15. And Daniel spoke and said, "Blessed be the name of God from ever to ever, for His are power and wisdom."

16. He changes times and ages; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise, and science to the well-informed.

17. Daniel stresses (dashes, mark) the importance of exalting God's name and recognizing His role in the unfolding of human events.

18. Nebuchadnezzar failed to understand the dream that God gives him, he calls Daniel and he can give him the revelation of the dream through the wisdom and power of God.

19. The source of God's power and wisdom they attribute to His Divine Self.

20. God is the creator of the universe and sustains everything with the power of His words.

21. His wisdom and knowledge.

22. (Proverbs 11:23) This means that those people who, despite their distance from God, decide to return to Him, can be restored and reconciled.

23. It is a verse full of meaning for a variety of reasons, but mainly because it speaks of God's power to transform and redeem those who do not believe in Him.

24. Lack of faith, on the other hand, can lead them away from Him.

25. Faith is crucial (critical, decisive) to keep us steadfast.

26. Have we allowed unbelief to lead us away from God?

27. Are we willing to abide in Christ so that we can be grafted into the faith and obtain salvation?

28. (Romans 16:27) To the one wise God.

29. This is the "one God," the only source and only display of pure wisdom; to Him belongs glory through Jesus Christ, our Mediator forever.

30. How much we owe the Lord for it!

31. And how poor we would be if we did not possess it!

32. (1 Corinthians 1:25) In reality, with God there is neither foolishness nor weakness.

33. But the apostle is saying that that which in the eyes of men appears to be foolishness on the part of God, is in reality wiser than men.

34. Also, what appears in the eyes of men to be weak on God's side turns out to be stronger than anything that men can ever achieve.

35. (Psalm 147:4) God counts the number of stars.

36. Our Sovereign God is great, and I will know how to call Him by His name. Amen
