I will not sell my birthright for a meal

From: August 1-7, 2006 Study: # 455 TOPIC: “I will not sell my birthright for a meal” Hebrews 12:15-17

If we do not guard our spiritual life with the Lord and we let the flesh take over, the old man in us will destroy us. We must learn to take good care of ourselves. We must open our eyes and our mind. Some things may seem simple and inoffensive to us and that is why we stop caring for ourselves. We must care for the simple and small things of our church because then we will care for bigger things. The life of God in us is much bigger. We can say that we depend on God for everything and He will always support us. We must watch our walk in the Lord, this marvelous path of life which we have come to know and walk according to God’s plan. This way we show how interested we are in God and his calling. Ephesians 1:4 The best way to show how much we live is by expressing it. For many of us it is hard to bring out what is inside of us, but it is something we need to start expressing because when we do it at the same time we are expressing a manifestation of love towards God. Our fears keep us from expressing glory to God. We must let our brothers and sisters in Christ feel how we love them. 1 John 4:20 We all allow others to see our interest in this world when we express it; we all talk about it and people can tell. God also hears and sees us and He will be pleased as we express our love to others. We have started living here what we are to live in the eternity. When we begin to lose it is because we have failed to reach God’s grace, as it happened to Esau, Jacobs’s brother. Hebrews 12:15, 16 We stop reaching when there is a root of bitterness because of anger against others, because of hatred. When there is hatred against others they cannot be united, together, the grace of God is gone and this anger or resentment comes out of that person’s mouth and into the ears of others. From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Luke 6:45 Paul’s letter in Colossians 4:6 says: “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” We have received life from Christ; He has given us a free abundant life, by grace. And if with all this which we have received from Christ, bitterness is what comes out of our heart, then we are exposing ourselves to lose everything as Esau did. It is very bad to have roots of bitterness against others, because we contaminate others. We must be careful not to have an outbreak of any root of bitterness that can contaminate others. We must learn how to forgive in order for God to deliver us and not lose the grace of God in us. We must learn how not to lose the grace and to not contaminate others, so they will not lose eternal life for our fault, because then we will receive greater punishment. We must learn to love and to forgive. Esau had no self esteem; he did not value who he was. If we don’t value what we have and who we are we will encounter a big problem. We must understand that what God has given us is to value it and take good care of it. God will reward us in eternity according to what we did with what He gave us. If we don’t value what we first received, then we will sell it, we will sell our birthright as Esau did. In those days the birthright was received by the first born, which received the biggest portion of everything, for this was based on God’s law for the Jewish nation. Nevertheless, Esau despised all God had given him, his birthright. How valuable is what God has placed in our hands; gift, ministries, what Jesus did with our lives, He washed us with his blood. We must take good care of all of these things as good administrators valuating what is divine. We must learn and value what should be first in our lives. If we do, we will get

to where we need to go. Beloved, how important is for our life all that is divine, what has come to us from God. If we don’t value the birthright that God has given us as Esau did, time will pass by, we will lose and gain nothing. If we don’t take advantage of what God has given us, if we despise it, in a wink of an eye we will be rejected. Esau made a worldly fast decision, he didn’t count on God, that’s why he was rejected and did not have an opportunity to repent. God has done many things in our lives and has given us “our birthrights”, our promises and blessings even before the foundation of the earth. Sometimes we do things wrong and this will causes remorse to our conscience, but there is not necessarily repentance, and as the years go by we do the same thing over and over. We must really value what is spiritual, when we learn to value it we will struggle to not ever lose it again. Spiritual matters must be first in our lives. Failure is feared and that is why some escape, so they won’t have to confront the situation. Remorse does not count for God, only repentance pleases God. We must learn how to repent from our heart. Grace has many blessings, all that is ours by the redemption of the death of Christ. We have come to church, to the mount of our living God to seek forgiveness of our sins, etc. Sometimes we think that we simply come to church, but we have come to the mount of the living God, this is why we must take good care of our lives and our birthrights. We must learn that we are touching the mount of the living God. Moses was the mediator of the law and Jesus the mediator of our salvation by his precious blood. The blood of Jesus is always upon us, it will never stop being. We must not despise when God is speaking to us. Ignore God’s voice is to reject what God is speaking to us. Hebrews 12:25 If what God is speaking to us hurts us, then we must humble ourselves and believe God. When God speaks to us we must not despise with lightness His voice for then we will perish. There is a greater privilege then that in Mount Sinai, there is a greater responsibility. Our responsibility is greater, let us not be disturbed, the power comes from God. We must work for the indestructible, to seek God, our worship; these we will never lose. Then, why pay attention to the things that we seize in this world that will one day be burned. I will not lose my birthright; I will love and take care of it with all my strength. Amen.
