TOPIC: “We must recognize what has arrived to our lives” Hebrews 2:1-4 Many times we are very careless with our spiritual lives. Many fall into idle, laziness. However, we struggle hard to have a good education and good jobs. We give a lot to our secular or natural existence but we make ourselves deaf when it comes to hearing and obeying the voice of God (Hebrews 2: 1). How many things do we dedicate and strive more in our lives rather than to hear and receive from the One who gave us life? For example, if I am a teacher I trained well regarding to teaching. If I am a salesman, I strive to learn everything about sales because I will be successful if I know well what I do. If I know little of what I have to do in my job, and unable to answer any questions, then I'll be at risk of losing a job or business. Then, one must be well prepared because that is how we succeed in the secular life. It is the same in God, my beloved. If you do not know Him, you will fail along the road. But if you know Him you will be successful, because all will know how much you love Him and believe in Him. So, we must pay more attention and interest to what God has spoken (Hebrews 2: 1). The more you hear the more you will know. When the angels brought a message of God to a person, it was a firm message. (Hebrews 2: 2) How much more if the word comes from the Lord Jesus; poor of those who do not do what Jesus teaches! When the messages given by the angels were not heard or attended, strict punishment would follow. Considering that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, greater than any angel, then, what is expected for those who do not hear Him, or follow Him, or love Him? Jesus is greater than Moses and all the prophets. When someone decides not to hear and walk without God’s direction it is like going on a ship adrift. It is the poor sailor that does not anchor his ship in any port. His ship is far away, he does not know where he is or where the winds blow. Poor of those who do not know the Lord closely, their ship will only strike according to how the wind blows. We should anchor our spiritual lives in the word we have heard, what we have learned and been taught. Some neglect and let pass the place or port where their ship had to be anchored for safety and spiritual stability. To exit a safe harbor and drift away will provoke the coming of a possible shipwreck. A ship that drifts away will end in self-destruction because the sailor has fallen asleep. He does not want to be awakened by anyone; he will get quite upset if someone awakes him. They do not want to be warned or reprimanded by their pastor or another Christian friend. The danger of drifting away in their spiritual life is that they deviate from the Person of Christ, they easily fall into apostasy (turn away from the divine truth) which is a sin in which there is no repentance. When one is being led into sin it is little by little, without realizing it. Those who are drifting away each day, they draw gradually further away from God. Consider that those who consciously and deliberately leave God are the least. Notice that only a few commit disastrous sins, but there are many who let themselves get involved in some kind of situation little by little until they wake to a harsh reality to find that they have destroyed their own lives and the heart of others. We must be constantly on guard against the danger of living our lives adrift! Hebrews 2: 3. Those who did not pay attention received just punishment for their transgression and disobedience. (Hebrews 2: 2). They were paid fairly. The sins that bring punishment of the law are called transgression and disobedience. In Greek transgression is crossing the line, going too far. The

knowledge of the word spoken by God and the conscience has drawn a line, and crossing it is a sin. Now it is clear what was good and bad. The payment is for not doing what God intended when He spoke. There is also disobedience when one does not listen cautiously, when one is half death before the word of God. One does not hear correctly, it is not understood, the words are confused. How dangerous, to hear carelessly! One can sin due to the lack of attention or misunderstanding or failure to grasp what has been spoken. It’s that there is much unwillingness to hear. How difficult it is to talk to those who do not want to hear! It comes to disobeying God’s voice; the heart is already hardened, rebellious, with anger. The ears are deliberately closed to the Lord’s commandments, to his warnings and invitations. The law was given to Moses by angels and the word of the gospel was given directly by the Lord Jesus himself. What we have received is unique like to throw it aside because of the desires of the flesh. It was originated directly from Jesus for our lives. It is the same voice of God coming into our lives. Why despise it and throw it aside? Someone had spoken to the one who wrote this letter to the Hebrews because they heard directly from the lips of Jesus (Hebrews 2: 3). This is how the gospel is spread. We have known by someone who knew the Lord. This message of life is manifested to us with signs and wonders and many powerful deeds; that is why it is so effective in our lives. The life of those who acknowledge this truth is totally changed. We see and hear of the great miracles, signs, wonders, distribution of the Holy Spirit, and testimonies of the truth of the gospel. May our ears be open to hear the Lord of life with attention! Amen.
