What You Do To Others without Self-Interest You Do To Jesus

BIBLE STUDY #822-CHURCH IN THE HOUSES TUESDAY, JULY 15 -21, 2014

Topic: “What You Do To Others without Self-Interest You Do To Jesus” Matthew 25:33-40 God will judge us according to our reactions to the HUMAM NECESSITIES, to our reactions to the needs of others. His judgment will not be in function of the knowledge we have amassed or the fame we’ve acquired or the fortune we’ve earned but rather based on THE DISINTERESTED HELP THAT WE HAVE GIVEN TO OUR FELLOWMEN. There are certain things in this parable by the Lord that teaches us about the help we should give others. It is necessary to point out that Jesus is talking about the help IN SIMPLE THINGS THAT ARE WITHIN OUR REACH in order to carry it out. In this parable Jesus teaches us to be willing to see the necessity and to make up for it. Some of the examples the Lord gives us are: give to someone who is hungry something to eat, something to drink to someone who is thirsty or receive a stranger. Mathew 25:35 “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in…” The Lord also said that helping others is to encourage someone who is ill who probably thinks he should no longer struggle for his life; there you will be at his side with the voice of faith to lift him…because you love him! This is not about giving thousands of dollars or to do things so that our name will be written in the annals of our history. IT IS JUST TO RENDER SIMPLE HELP TO PERSONS WHOM WE ENCOUNTER EVERY DAY! It is not that you completely stopped doing your own things to do this that Jesus is expecting from you. It is simple: in your daily living you see and you react. You saw hunger and you fed even in your own home. Is anyone thirsty? Well, you gave him to drink. It is your own house: Did you discover that someone is a foreigner? Well, you gave him shelter, it’s your home! Was anyone naked? You dressed him with what you had, you gave him. You saw him sick and you visited him. You don’t have to take a plane to go far to help. There is someone in jail and you visited him. That is what is asked of us, or better said; it should be within us to see the needs of others and not only our own. We do something for others without any interest! The help is not given because we are helping the Lord directly or doing merits for the eternity; the help is given because TO DO GOOD IS UPON ALL THOSE WHO HAVE KNOWN THE LORD; one cannot do any less. It is the natural reaction, instinctive, totally disinterested from the heart that loves. Meanwhile, on the other hand, the attitude of those who don’t help is this: “If we would have known it was you we would’ve helped you with much love, but we thought it was simply A COMMON PERSON!” “Someone who wasn’t worth helping.” IT IS A GREAT REALITY THAT THERE ARE SOME WHO WOULD HAVE HELPED IF THEY WERE TO RECEIVE PRAISES, THANKS AND PUBLICITY, BUT TO HELP IN THAT WAY IS NOT HELPING; IT IS TO PILE UP MERITS. Let us understand that the help that is given to others and obtains God’s approval is the one that is given ONLY WITH AN UNINTERESTED PURPOSE OF HELPING! Jesus faces us with the marvelous truth that this kind of help that we render to our fellowmen is given…to Him! All help that is denied is denied… to Him! There is nothing you would be more grateful in life when someone helps your children, in a moment when there was only you and the one who helped them. God the Father is rejoiced in His heart when we help His children who we know are our fellow men. The other day my younger son, Dan, was telling me that “eagerness makes one work only for oneself.” For such reason, in life you sink when you’re incapable of doing well to others. Look and think: What am I capable of doing that is right in front of my eyes? Don’t seek any reasoning to come up with excuses. The necessity occurred before you, it’s there and period; do well. WHEN WE LEARN THE GENEROSITY THAT HELPS PEOPLE WITHOUT ANY INTEREST IN THE MOST SIMPLE THINGS, WE ALSO EXPERIMENT THE JOY OF HELPING JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF. Do something of what you need to do! You should not think only about yourself. Amen.
