God is My Rock

STUDY: #956- CHURCH IN THE HOUSES FROM: NOVEMBER 7-13, 2017

TOPIC: “God is My Rock” Psalm 28:1 “To you, O Lord, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.” King David said to God. Do not neglect me. Do not abandon me. Do not set me aside. In Deuteronomy 32:4 it says: “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.” This is why David said: “To you, O lord, I call; my rock…” It’s like saying: You are my Rock! I cry out to you, and only you. Oh, Jehovah! “You are my Rock.” This was how David saw the Lord; like everything that the word Rock implies in terms of security, strength, and stability. Let us consider these three things represented by the Rock that is our Lord. First, as the Rock, the Lord is SAFETY, which is the absence of danger or risk. The feeling of having total confidence. Second, our Lord the Rock is the FORCE, the ability to perform a job, the power. Finally, the Lord has STABILITY. This means that He has balance. He is stable and can avoid crisis. He does not have ups and downs. David was crying out to that wonderful God. “…lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit.” If God leaves, it’s like losing the Rock and going to the grave with evil people. “If you leave me, do not let me become like the bad guys.” Who says that we are strong, stable and safe? That only comes from our Rock! From our Lord! Brother, you will say like David: “God, lest I, leaving you, come to the tomb.” I do not want to be like the evil; living in darkness, evil, and hatred. I do not want to live in envy, lies, adultery; thus arriving at the tomb. Just like the evil. Will you say to the Rock, “Do not abandon me?” Do not leave me because then I will go to the tomb! Then I won’t have strength, stability, nor security in me. Oh God! Deuteronomy 32:4 “He is the Rock…” He is stable, firm; a God that doesn’t change, a safe haven. The enemy can’t reach Him! The ways of God are RIGHTEOUSNESS, PRUDENCE and JUSTICE to show that God’s goals are always right, and the means He uses are wise. God moves in righteousness. His own Divine Being is righteousness, as is truth, light, love, life. His work is perfect. Creation, redemption; everything is perfect. His work does not need to be repaired or amended (fixed). With such a great and powerful God; so wise, just, and reliable we are safe! God is truth. His words comprise complete guarantee. God is faithful in every test. He can’t lie. He doesn’t fall short on His promises. He never fails! Nothing and no one can stop Him from fulfilling His promise. Whether it’s salvation for those who obey Him or condemnation for those who disobey. There is no iniquity in Him! There is no injustice in God. The Lord never deceives those who trust Him. He never harms those who appeal to His justice, and He is never harsh to those who take refuge in His mercy. He is fair and righteous. God’s justice is filled with mercy until it’s confused by it. God’s punishment is always less than what we deserve, and His reward is always more than what we deserve. (This is what medieval theologians believe.) God is absolutely the Rock to trust! This is a clear picture of the divine God. David cried out, and was terrified by the thought of God leaving him. This is why David said, “…so that it is not me, leaving you, like those who descend to the tomb.” This is what’s left for those who forget about God. Walking without hope, strength, security and stability. Those who forget about God are dead. If God abandons us it’s as if we are going to the grave, filled with death! There is no hope! We would return to our old ways of sin, hate, envy, evilness, lies, and quarrels. If God leaves we will have a path straight to the grave, hell! Follow David’s example and always

cry out to the Lord, with all your heart, to keep your heart clean towards Him, to please God who is the Rock, and to love the one who gave life. Amen.
